Always Constructing

"Always Constructing" is a solo exhibition by Andio Lai that serves as a review of his personal "artistic construct" over the years. The artist shapes the space through the rearrangement of objects, creations, sounds, and narration, functioning both as assemblage and functional systems.

Starting from various tools, the space becomes a personal journey through media archaeology, revisiting multiple "constructs" simultaneously. Memories and relationships across different media are revisited to generate new objects.

Narrative Construction

What the artist describes as a construct forms the foundation of the show. The major theme of the exhibition deals with the narrative aspects of the artist's identity, tools, and medium. These narratives bridge the gap between the actual and the imagined. Typically, a narrative cannot fully capture factual truth.

The objects and spaces around us change, and we change with them. To a certain extent, these constructs are influenced by the trends and currents of the art culture as a whole. Our individual choices are driven by our interests and preferences, among other possibilities. These choices then dictate our selection of tools."

Constructing the Media

The problem of art and media. The artistic expectation on media application is a limitation to the artists. Breakthrough can be archived by reviewing own lost of creation. Material, Form, ideas and styles. Different types of work in progress lead to a mixture of everything, the saturation is overwhelming. While most exhibition encourage a minimalistic and condensed view of topic. This exhibition adapt a maximalist methodology to creativity.

In Media Archaeology,we look at the trajectories of media. The topos of this exhibition spread across multiple medium, from the artist’s often practice of sound art to the newer exploration 

The Fool is the Construct

In this exhibition ,the elements were influenced by the concept of Tarot card’s journey of the Fool. As artist, we are the fool. The four suites for art representation reflect on 4 major nature of the items being shown in the space. In tarot card Major arcana provides a story of the fool’s journey of learning from different people , up and downs. Meeting new people and things. In the psychology of Carl Jung The entities of major arcana plays a role of archetype .

Imagining a new archetype of “ the construct”, The whole show structure also builds upon the idea of the Fool’s true nature. Before its evolution to the current archetype. It’s root is full of changes,edits and modifications.
